Hidden Chemicals In New Clothes

Ever notice that funny odor new linens and clothes sometimes have? Fabrics especially those with wrinkle-free, antibacterial and stain-resistant treatments often have formaldehyde, urea resins and other volatile organic compounds that are not only smelly but can irritate your skin and trigger allergic reactions.

To get rid of those chemical scents, drop them into a bucket (or top loading washing machine), cover with water and add 1 cup of baking soda and 2 cups of white vinegar. Soak overnight. Run through your regular laundry cycle the next day. Some fabrics may require a repeat of the process to completely rid them of lingering chemical odors.
